Kid on the Edge – The challenge to paint a kid mountain goat in his home environment was one that this artist found interesting. The trepidation of trying to find food and to avoid falling from slippery slopes —that might result in serious injury or death— is with goat kids almost as soon as they are born. The hazards of being taken by hungry bears or wolves and even birds of prey when the kids are small are prevalent on the steep slopes, so they are encouraged to climb higher on less footing all the time. Parent goats can offer little help when they get into trouble.
In this depiction the kid is leaning away from the edge and trying to keep his footing while on the ledge. It emphasizes that every species has challenges and dangers in the survival of the fittest. The piece is oil on canvas and measures 18 X 24. It was completed January 2024 and is valued at $500. Matted Prints are available in various sizes.
